An
early - yet dynamic - role for Marisa Mell [considered her best performance
by CineMark Best Movies series]; she makes this a marvelously
entertaining Spaghetti Western from 1964. It's the story of crooked
lawman Rex Kelly (Edmund Pudom) responsible for sending an innocent
man to prison. When Pedro Ortez (Mario Adorf) breaks out of jail he
becomes a cult hero and organizes a gang of outlaws. Pedro goes for
revenge against Rex Kelly, now a retired sheriff. The Ortez gang raids
his ranch and kidnaps his wife. Rex decides to take vengeance on his
own.
Rolf
Olsen was a studio alias, a director's name attached to projects for
a variety of reasons. In this case, "Rolf Olsen" is
believed to be Italian filmmaker Giorgio Stegani [who often made Spaghetti
Westerns under the name George Finley (GENTLEMAN
KILLER,
BEYOND THE LAW, ADIOS GRINGO, et al)]. Reportedly,
the West German production company was only permitted to hire technicians
from that country, a condition insisted upon by the firm's major investor.
Scriptwriter Fernando Di Leo and cinematographer Enzo Serafin also adopted
German monikers to guarantee their paychecks.
