Based on a story by
Sergio Corbucci (which was obviously based on William Shakespeare's play),
this is a retelling o the Bard's Hamlet tale, Western style. Directed
with extraordinary style and charisma by Enzo Castellari, of KEOMA
fame.
The story deals with a young man who returns home from the Civil War
to find his father dead and mother remarried to Uncle Claude, a despicable
man who has taken over the ranch (calling it Rancho El Senor). Suspecting
foul play, Johnny investigates, with the aid of his friend (played by
Mexican vet actor Gilbert Roland).
Interestingly,
this film was released in Germany as a Django film with the lead character's
name changed.
An
Italian film; widescreen, totally uncut version (91 min.), in English
language, DVD encoded for ALL REGION, playable on any American machine.
Extras include original theatrical trailer.
