starring: May Britt · Cameron Mitchell · Aldo Ray ·

Popular
Swedish actress May Britt is superb as the tormented Ingrid, a repressed
and obsessively religious farm girl in a town terrorized by a brutal sex
murderer. Despite the immediately exploitative elements, director Herb
Freed (best known for the quirky Graduation Day) is more
interested in creating a psychological melodrama, similar to Roman Polanski's
REPULSION.
Ingrid
is a deeply devout Catholic, suffering hallucinations thanks to a disturbing
childhood memory (seeing her mother dead in the bathtub after getting
raped and killed by Uncle Carl). She lives alone on the family farm and
is incredibly uncomfortable around men. It seems that Ingrid is stalked
by town stud Frankie [she's convinced that he raped her with a knife to
her throat] but the alcoholic town sheriff is reluctant to believe her
report. Rather, the sheriff - trying to stay sober - is more concerned
with a rash of 'very real' rapes and murders plaguing the streets of his
city.
May
Britt (born Maybritt Wilkens in Sweden) was probably best known for being
married to Sammy Davis Jr. This movie would be her final project. She
quit the business to become a stay-at-home mother to their three children.
