behind a series of specially crafted masks. He is more successful but
the masks cannot fully hide the emptiness in his soul.
This Italian-made
feature film is an early starring role for a very young Helena Bonham
Carter, long before her days with directors Kenneth Branagh, Woody Allen
and Tim Burton. In 1987, she was denied admission to prestigious King's
College [Cambridge University] not because of her grades or her test scores
but rather because she had told school officials that she was hoping for
an acting career. They were afraid that she would leave mid-term to pursue
her non-academic goals. Because of Cambridge University's rejection, Helena
accepted this role in Italy. She has since made 100 films.
