Trash Filmmaker Rino Di Silvestro delivers a Sleazy Cleopatra Story
Original Italian title: SOGNI
EROTICA DI CLEOPATTA
director: Rino Di Silvestro (as Cesar Todd)
starring: Marcella Petrelli · Jaques Stany · Rita Silva · Andrea Coppola
· Maurizio Araoni · Franca Torlone
Here
is one of two major Grindhouse adaptation of the sexy side of the Cleopatra
legend (also
see KLEOPATRA:
JOY AND THE PHARAOHS), this time helmed by genre sleaze-maestro
Rino Di Silvestro (best known for his mega-trashy motion pictures like
PROSTITUZIONE,
WEREWOLF
WOMAN, HANNA
D: GIRL FROM VODEL PARK, et al). This film (unlike the
aforementioned KLEOPATRA), centers on the later period of her life, after
Caeser takes her back to Rome away from her Egyptian comforts. She is
bored and alone in a large villa on the outskirts of the city while her
husband is dealing with the daily routine of running the metropolis. She
falls prey to the seductions of Marc Anthony and other government dignitaries
who wish to drive a wedge between Cleopatra and Caesar. As her sexual
exploits become more and more decadent (including a memorable masturbation
session with a horse while fucking a guardsman and - while wandering in
the garden - frolicking with a HUGE snake), Cleopatra
begins having erotic nightmares which foretell; the death of Caesar.
When
Rino Di Silvestro died (of cancer) in 2009, exploitation cinema lost one
of its greatest trash filmmakers. He was a writer/director who specialized
in extremely raw, graphic and, (yes, without a doubt) offensive low-budget
Grindhouse fare. Mr Di Silvestro claimed to have ghostwritten over 200
screenplays before breaking into filmmaking as the director for WOMEN
IN CELL BLOCK 7 (1973).
