A
Young Woman Inadvertently Gets Involved with Counter-Culture Rebels
director: Carlo Lizzani
starring: Corinne Clery · Bruce Robinson · Katja Rupe
· Werner Pochath · Rodolfo Dal Pra · Carole Fouranou
Pascale,
a young woman married to a successful architect (played by Corinne Clery
from THE STORY OF O), misses her flight to London [there is some evidence
to suggest that that she intentionally missed the flight] and is forced
to stay in Berlin for at least another night. Pascale chooses to stay
at the Kleinhoff Hotel where she once stayed as a student, seemingly
in a romantic tryst. But the hotel is not the romantic place of yester-years
any longer. Today, it is populated by (mostly) young, idealistic revolutionaries.
Karl, a counter-culture rebel lives in the adjoining room. Mesmerized,
Pascale finds herself spying on him and his ex-girlfriend through a
hole in the wall. Then Pascale follows him to a shoddy place where she
gets arrested by the police during a revolutionists' sting raid. When
Pascale returns to the Kleinhoff Hotel, she finds Karl crying. She enters
his room to console him and they find themselves in a torrid love affair.
After she falls asleep, Karl kills himself; Upon awaking, Pascale coldly
dresses and leaves the hotel.
Director
Carlo Lizzani was fascinated by the International counter-culture movement
of the '60s and '70. He made numerous documentaries on the subject.
Often his liberal leanings were speckled through the undercurrent of
his films. His commercial projects were mostly Spaghetti Westerns (usually
signed as Lee W. Beaver) and his best known was THE
HILLS RUN RED (1966). Mr Lizzani committed suicide at age 91
in October 2013.
