While sketching on a beach, middle-aged artist Dino (played with style by Ben Gazarra) sees Nicole (beauty Ornella Muti) rescued from drowning. He loans her a blanket. Later she personally returns the blanket and they have sex. The two continue seeing each other, but she always leaves immediately after making love. Dino becomes infatuated with Nicole and begins to wonder who she is and where she goes. Things get serious when they appear to be falling in love but he eventually starts to realize that his lover may be very much insane.

Director Pasquale Festa Campanile scurried through genres for years - helming 50+ motion pictures - but he usually found comfort with exploitation fare (like AUTOSTOP ROSSO SANGUE [Hitch Hike]). That decision probably cost him major recognition by the critics. GIRL FROM TRIESTE is generally considered his best film. Mr Campanilo died from a heart attack in February 1986 at age 58.
