Here's a major multi-million
dollar showcase for legendary actor Paul Naschy. For decades - especially
throughout the '60s and '70s - Mr Naschy made a name for himself as the
werewolf Waldemar Daninsky. He became the true king of Spanish [horror]
cinema, recognized worldwide for his remarkable 100+ films. But this movie
may become the pinnacle of his cinematic success. Written by Naschy (under
his real name Jacinto Molina), here is the story of washed-up veteran
actor Pablo Thevenet who sells his soul [and talent] to the devil and
finds himself contracted into directing snuff films.
Specifically, Pablo
Thevenet is overwhelmed by bad luck: his daughter was brutally murdered,
his wife left him, acting parts have totally dried up and his agent wants
to cut all ties. Everywhere he looks, Pablo sees nothing but frustration
complicated by an onslaught of worthless hacks populating his craft. Miraculously,
he does eventually find a job. Unfortunately, it is far below his talent;
Pablo becomes a living sculpture in a whore house owned by mysterious
Mr. Reficul. However, the money is good, the sex plentiful and he is allowed
a certain freedom to take vengeance against everyone and anyone who crosses
him. Soon, Pablo is contracted by producer Ambrose Fuchs and put in charge
of a new line of "artistic" snuff films.
