Kenta
Fukasaku continues his impressive string of exploitative cult films
with this horror-slasher flick (also see BATTLE
ROYALE II, YO-YO
GIRL COP, X
CROSS, KIRU).
Schoolgirl Asuka commits suicide after being mercilessly bullied by
classmates. A short time later, six students receive an email from the
dead Asuka. They are asked to gather that night in an abandoned classroom.
After the kids get together they are attacked and brutally murdered
by someone wearing a rat costume.
The
plot is a curious mixture of I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER and DEATH
BELL, but Kenta Fukasaku makes it work. Part of the charm is
director Fukasaku's mania for "cat fighting.". It's certainly
interesting how the great filmmakers tend to bring their own personal
fetishes along with them to a production. And Kenta Fukasaku loves two
pretty girls in a knock-down fist-fight (that was obvious in ALL
his previous movies); but this time he really delivers the goods!
