It's
a miracle this movie ever got made in today's climate of "take no
chances" filmmaking. There's a rumor that the investors gave the
money to the Poiraud Bros before a script was completed, based simply
on the impressive cast. But whatever... Thanks to everybody involved for
keeping Cinema fresh and unconventional. There hasn't been a movie like
this for two decades. Maybe longer.
Vanessa
Paradis and Jason Flemyng star as lovers kept apart by a testy father
in a small bayou town. It seems daddy doesn't like the fact that the boy
is an escaped convict, but - more importantly - everybody is more excited
over the village's Annual Talent Show competition. Then, quite unexpectedly,
the story transmutes into an ultra-violent SciFi thriller. Creatures from
Outer Space attack the backwoods community with a brutal (and amazingly
graphic) force. The aliens are merciless and the humanity's struggle for
survival is painted blood red.
