A
controversial samurai film about physical love between men from the director
of IN THE REALM OF SENSES.
This remarkable story (punctuated with excellent visuals) takes place
in 19th century Japan, as the Shinsengumi militia is preparing a police
action against rebel forces. But the real action revolves around a young
recruit, Kano, and the various men who lust after him. Takeshi Kitano
plays a commanding officer who reluctantly gets involved when his superior
expresses interest in having an affair with the bewitchingly beautiful
young man. Soon a trail of dead lovers points to sinister happenings in
the homosexual underground.
Widescreen
uncut (101 min.) version in DVD encoded for ALL REGIONS, playable on
any American DVD machine; in Japanese language with removable English
subtitles as an option.
