Director
Lee Chang-Dong ("Peppermint Candy") presents an unconventional
romance between a recently paroled convict (Sol) and a young woman with
cerebral palsy (Moon, in her best and certainly most challenging role).
Jong-du Hong, a mildly retarded man, returns home from prison but his
family is not happy to see him. They virtually ignore him. By chance,
he meets Gong-ju, a young woman afflicted with cerebral palsy who is treated
similarly terrible by her family. After a disastrous "first date"
(severely damaged by Hong's rape of the girl), the two begin a friend-n-lover
relationship.
