With an intentional
genuflection to Bruce Lee's FISTS OF FURY (aka CHINESE CONNECTION), Jet
Li is Chen Zhen, a student studying abroad during WW2 who returns home
to avenge his master's death at the hands of those sinister Japanese.
After Chen discovers that his teacher was poisoned, all hell breaks loose.
While kicking some ass, he even uncovers a secret Japanese plan to invade
China. The cast is exceptional, but the real reason you're watching this
film is to see Jet Li fight. And he fights like a son-of-a-bitch! The
final sequence is nothing short of amazing, pitting Chen against the evil
Japanese kickboxing general (Kurata). This is incredible "old-school"
butt-stomping kung fu, with minimal wire effects and optimum fists of
fury.
