The only
Spaghetti Western by Peter Collinson! Based on a book by Louis L'Amour
and filmed with lambent flare by Britain's unappreciated Peter Collinson,
it tells the story of Noon (Richard Crenna), a gunslinger suffering from
amnesia after he's been struck by a bullet. Aided by an outlaw named Rimes
(Stephen Boyd) and a sultry gun-wielding senorita, Fan (Rosanna Schiaffino),
Noon struggles to unravel his true identity as he seeks vengeance for
his dead wife and child. The remarkable thing about this film is Collinson's
direction, particularly his unflinching eye for detail and his exceptional
ability to shoot traditional scenes from unique vantage points. He makes
tired tale seem fresh. Collinson, who died in an automobile accident in
1980 at age 41, was on the cutting edge of filmmaking, exploring many
genre themes before they became vogue. THE PENTHOUSE (1967), FRIGHT (1975),
OPEN SEASON (1974), THE ITALIAN JOB (1969) and this film are the best
examples of his craft.
